TEAM: Individual

This collection of 26 typographic designs represents a culmination of my most intensive work, designed over an extended period. It is a twist of my artistic expression: one from creativity to practicality.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

CONCEPT

I wanted to develop this typography set by exploring resourceful methods in approaching digital design.

As I delved into the bicycle's intricacies, gears stood out as a captivating feature — testaments to humanity's ability to forge simple mechanisms that set inert objects into motion. Inspired by this phenomenon, I integrated gears into my letterforms, aiming to evoke the essence of movement within the static. Yet, beyond the technical, this project strives to awaken deeper metaphors: the contrast of wood and metal akin to the interplay between nature and human innovation – the intertwining of tradition and progress.

It also led me to ponder the interplay of motion and stillness; much like gears rotate for movement, our lives pivot on coordinating elements, a constant reminder that even in seeming stillness, life's gears keep propelling us forward.

DEVELOPMENT IDEATION/ SKETCHES

PROCESS

To create these letter forms, I combined the traditional and digital, 2D and 3D. In using texture maps and gear elements, I also intertwined elements of collage. By layering these various techniques, I aimed to bring a unique depth and dimensionality to the letters, making them stand out not only as typographic elements but as pieces of art in their own right.

FINAL PRODUCT

FINAL REFLECTION

Throughout this project, I have pushed the boundaries of conventional design, experimenting with different materials and techniques to achieve a cohesive and visually engaging result. This endeavour was not just about showcasing my digital design abilities but also about exploring inventive and resourceful methods that I have self-learned over time.

Moreover, the process of experimentation has been incredibly rewarding. Each new technique I tried, and each mistake I learned from, contributed to a richer and more nuanced final product. The tactile experience of working with physical materials, combined with the precision of digital tools, allowed me to create something that felt both grounded and innovative. This balance between tradition and modernity is something I strive to maintain in all my work.

This project has reinforced my belief in the importance of continuous learning and experimentation in design. It has shown me that by merging diverse elements and techniques, I can create something truly unique and impactful.
